16th APG MEET AND National Conference

As a part and parcel of APG, Department of Geography, University of Jammu, Jammu has taken an initiative to organize 16 APG MEET and National Conference on September 28-29, 2015.

State Level Geographical Quiz Contest-2015

P.G. Department of Geography, SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana again successfully organized State level Geographical Quiz Contest (2015), in coordination with Association of Punjab Geographers on 14th Feb. 2015. A team from Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib won first prize, whereas the teams from GCG, Ludhiana and Khalsa College for Girls, Ludhiana bagged the second and third prizes respectively.

Dr. Saminderjeet Singh Young Geographer Award

Three copies of original research paper along with bio-data of the author who has not attained the age of 35 years are invited for the Young Geographer Award. Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh

The department celebrated Ist April as Founders Day to commemorate the birthday of late Prof.G.S. Gosal under the aegis of Association of Population Geographers of India(APGI). Professor Indu Banga (Emeritus Professor), Department of History delivered a lecture on this occasion.

The Department of Geography, H.P.University Shimla has been assigned the responsibility to organize a three week Inter-disciplinary Refresher Course for university and college teachers in "Environmental Science" by Human Resource Development Centre, H.P.University, Shimla. Department of Geography AMU, Aligarh

Department of Geography AMU, Aligarh is organizing Summer School on "Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Natural Recourse Management" sponsored by NRDMS, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, New Delhi, from 24-7-15 to 14-8-15.

Department of Geography, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla

Dr. B.S. Marh, Professor Department of Geography, HPU Shimla, retired from the service on June 30, 2015. In order to commemorate the occasion of his retirement, the Department convened a one day State Level Seminar on "Geoinformatics - The Most Effective Solutions" on the day of his retirement and bid farewell.

Department of Civil Engineering, Chitkara University, Solan, HP

Department of Civil Engineering, Chitkara University, Solan, Himachal Pradesh is organizing 21days Summer School on Geospatial Technologies, Training on Remote Sensing and GIS from 21 July to 10 August, 2015, sponsored by NRDMS, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi. Dr. D.D. Sharma, Professor Department of Geography, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla Coordinated a Special Summer School conducted by the Academic Staff College, H.P. University Shimla, on 'Disaster Management' during 18th May to 6th June, 2015.

Professor D.D.Sharma, Chairman, Department of Geography, HPU, Shimla and President, APG, has been awarded Global Scholarship by Bath Spa University, UK for 2015-16 i.e. second phase of International exchange to visit Perth II Conference at Scotland and subsequent visit to Bath Spa University in October, 2015.

Dr. Dhian Kaur, Professor Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was invited by Global Development Institute at University of Fraser Valley (UFV) Abbotsford, BC, Canada for participation in the Sustainable Food System Symposium.

Condolence Resolution

Association of Punjab Geographers deeply mourns the sad demise of Dr. R.L. Sharma, formerly Professor, Department of Geography, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra who left us for his heavenly abode on May 22, 2015. By his departure the fraternity of geographers has lost a dedicated teacher and scholar in geography. Association of Punjab Geographers has also lost its well-wisher working for the cause of Geography even after his retirement. The APG sends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prays to the God for peace of departed Soul and to provide strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
